inspired by sports gear and a transforming weapon in a shape of a football, the arm are actually inside the weapon holding the trigger, the idea is while the character is not in it the weapon should be transform back to a football shape some kind of a security system. If a person is not authorize to hold it and his arm is inside its a bit savage it act as a trap for him and I guess you get the idea
